FLOWER MARKET

Welcome to our 2007 season!
This is our 4th season and we are still going strong.
Thanks to the generous support of various local and state agencies, we
have built a very solid foundation for the future.
We would especially like to thank our Assemblyman
Jeffrion Aubry, and our NYC City Council member Helen Sears
for their unwavering support year after year. We also would like to thank
The Presbytery of NYC and Rutgers Presbyterian Church for their generous
support as well.
We have added some pictures from the 2006 season.
It was a difficult year for us, as Mary’s father passed in March 2006,
so many of our expansion plans did not come to fruition. We did, however
manage to harvest our usual 1000+ lbs of produce and forged some new partnerships
with various organizations. Look for 2007 pictures to be posted soon. Our
spring has been slow to arrive here in the Northeast. Looks like we are
straight into summer with some 90 degree days recently (and more to come..
ick) We have all our usual greens planted already :spinach, lettuce, radishes,
arugula and collards. We plan to get the rest of the crops in this
week. We will be diversifying a bit this season; we decided that 100 tomato
plants are too many. We will be planting more squash, peppers, melons and
celery. We have already harvested almost 10 lbs of asparagus and looks
like we will have a bumper crop of strawberries and raspberries.
We will be installing a greenhouse this year in order
to expand our educational opportunities. We are working with the after
school program at elementary school PS 20 in Flushing queens. With the
assistance of our new volunteer organization, “Service for Peace”, we are
helping them create a garden at the school. All in all we look forward
to a very productive season. |

Well, we have been real busy down here on the farm.
We have been harvesting strawberries for about a month now and made our
first food bank delivery last week. Approximately 10 lbs of , (what
else) GREENS! We also started our fresh flower and herb market 3 weeks
ago. So far it has been a success, and the best part has been the people
we're meeting. We are trying to schedule a benefit concert for September…
more on that at the Jazz for Peace concert link. That's all for now. Remember
to eat your greens! |
